Two Words: Zac Posen

So I'm home sick today and watching a marathon of The Rachel Zoe Project and in one of the episodes she was in New York attending Fashion Week and all of the designers collections were stunning but one designer that really caught my eye was Zac Posen. His Fall 2009 collection was stunning! The pictures above are from his Spring 2009 collection, which features the very in trend: the mini dress. I love it! And you better too!

Closet Must Haves

Every girl needs a flannel t-shirt, belts, boots, and leggings in their closet. You can wear and accessorize those pieces with anything. Here I am wearing an Urban Outfitters Renewal flannel shirt, Urban Outfitters brown suede boots, Urban Outfitters black and brown crochet belt, and plain black leggings. Any of these pieces you can get from a lot stores, even vintage shops where you can find cheaper clothing.

Movie and Fashion

This weekend with my girlfriends I saw this movie called Charlie Barlett which I highly recommend people to watch. The movie featured a bunch of characters with each a different and unique personality. Charlie (the main character) is a very spunky, outgoing, outspoken kid who comes from a very wealthy family with some background family problems, but doesn't let it show. Charlie is a kid who just likes to fit in and take control of any situation he can. The clothing Charlie wears conveys his personality very well, he is seen wearing a graphic tee, jeans, sneakers, and a blazer throughout majority of the movie. His style shows that he is an independent boy and speaks what is on his mind. Another character in the movie who expresses his personality through clothing is Charlie's drug selling sidekick Murphey. Murphey is a tough guy who beat up Charlie when he first arrived at the public school. Murphey was normally shown wearing jeans, a plain white t-shirt, and a cut up busted vest. He is also often shown with a cigarette in his mouth with is an accessory to his outfit most times. The things he is shown wearing tells that he is tough and doesn't care, it gives off a vibe that says "back off". Over all this movie was outstanding and the style in it was unique, and oddly amazing.

Peter Som Spring 2009 Collection

I first previewed Peter Som's Spring 2009 collection at the Teen Vogue Fashion University seminar and I automatically fell in love. His inspiration was a love strucken Moroccan girl lose in the desert. Each piece tells the story so well and the colors he used I think are all perfect for the design of the outfits. I think the pieces are all fun and flirty, I especially like the accent of the belt on a few of the dresses. I think it really pulls the outfit together. The shorts and jacket combo I think is made beautifully and the flow of the jacketand detail in the shorts gives this casual sporty look a more feminine and classy touch.

Teen Vogue Fashion U '08(Oct. 24th-Oct. 26th)

This past weekend I attended Teen Vogue's Fashion University and let me tell you, it was the most incredible experience of my life. What this event is, is a chance to go to New York City and take seminars with designers like Tory Burch, Nanette Lepore, Peter Som, Monica Botkier, Kira Plastinina, Rachel Roy, Rag and Bone, Proenza Schouler, Philip Lim, many more, and the teen vogue editors. To be able to participate in this event you need to apply to it on the teen vogue website. In the application you must add some creative sketches, creative photographs, and a paragraph on fashion. Participating in this event was probably the most amazing thing I have ever participated in. It was so inspiring to listen to the designers and editors tell us about their journey in achieving their dreams and what we can do to help achieve our dreams and goals. In Peter Som's seminar I was able to view his Spring 2009 collection and as soon as I saw that collection I fell in love. Every piece in his collection was absolutely outstanding and beautiful. If I could I would buy every piece. The inspiration behind his collection is so moody and creative it now inspires me to come up with numerous photos of inspiration to help create my new sketches. I met so many fashionable girls who each expressed their fashion in all new, different, and creative ways. The whole event was inspiring and I suggest that any person interested in fashion and art, boy or girl, apply to it next year. Another designer I took a seminar with that I loved was Monica Botkier. I had always heard of her bags but I never looked into buying one of them, but now I would buy her bags because her bags are all gorgeous and each have a different meaning behind all of them. Monica Botkier was so sweet and down to earth. It felt as if I was talking to a friend, she was not intimidating or acted like she was better then any of us because she is a successful designer. I would work for any of these designers any day because they all have a lot to offer and a lot to teach me.

Outlook on Fashion

Fashion. Fashion to me is not just putting a bunch of clothing on a body. Fashion is considered an art, it's an art of putting together what looks good and a way of expressing a person's individuality. Fashion is also about keeping up with the latest trends and making sure you look good at all times. I don't believe in not dressing up for school because well it is school, I dress up for school because that is a way to express myself show who I am. I dress in just about anything I feel depending on my mood, and what is hot at the moment. Fashion is one of the most respected professions in my opinion because you really need a lot of creativity, determination, and ambition to per sue a career in this industry. Not anyone can just take a class in school on fashion and then have a job in that field. It's not like science or math where you study the topic and then just jump right into that job because you had good marks in that field and took classes on it. You need to be able to draw, have an eye for what looks good, have tough skin because this industry isn't easy, and always be thinking because like Heidi Klum says, "one day you're in, and the next day you're out." This business is very fast pace and is constantly changing and one must be able to keep up if they really want this.
My dream is to be a fashion designer. I love fashion, always have and probably always will. I live, breathe, eat, and sleep fashion. I have so much drive and determination towards this field and would do just about anything to live my dream. I do not want to design though for the stereotypical "beautiful person", I want to make a change in this industry and design for all sizes, shape, and color girls because I believe that all girls are beautiful as long as they just have confidence. I want my clothes to make all women feel confident so that they can feel beautiful and achieve the self-esteem they wish to have. If I ever achieve my dream I would send all types of girls down the runway because I believe that all girl should have her moment, and that the "stick skinny beautiful" look isn't real and those types of girls aren't the only ones buying the clothing the designer sends down the runway. There are girls of all types who want to buy the clothing so why not send real beautiful girls down the runway? I do respect though the fashion industry and what they really look for in a girl and what they think is beautiful, but the anorexic skinny look has not always been the look. Back in the 50's and 60's models were thicker and more real looking, and yet they were still considered beautiful. So I think it's time to bring back those days and make girls feel beautiful about themselves no matter what size, shape, or color they look like.
